The final “workday” for the 2010 season was on Saturday, December 10. It was a glorious day! A multitude of minor tasks were completed as the garden was covered up (mulched) and readied for whatever Mr. Winter has in store for us. In addition to all of the members bringing home many hundreds of pounds of fresh produce, the Western Wake Crisis Center received over 1500 pounds of food this year.
Just because there Christmas bells are jingling, don’t forget the garden will keep tingling as it waits for the sun’s strength to warm and awaken it. Since memberships for the 2011 season are already rolling in, you’ll want to be sure to submit yours early! Remember, annual family membership (Jan-Dec) is only $10, so come sow, grow, harvest, and build friendships at the garden. There’s no green thumb needed; we all learn from each other as we grow along.
Hope to see you soon. And, why not plant the idea of joining the garden in a friend’s mind, or get your office mates to join forces for a “Friends Day” of volunteer work in the garden? For information, please call Anne @ 616-6659.
Peace to all!

About Simple Gifts Community Garden
Our Mission: The mission of Simple Gifts Community Garden is to help us return to the simple and joyful life which God intended for us. Our garden will accomplish this by:
*Borrowing the gifts of land, time, talent and resources available to our community
*Building an organic garden to produce fresh and high quality fruits and vegetables while also building lasting friendships and cooperation within our community
*Sharing the knowledge of sustainable organic gardening practices, healthy food preparation and consumption as well as the bounty of our garden with each other and those in need within our community.
Our Vision
Simple Gifts Community Garden will feed our hunger as we grow fruits from the ground and feed our souls as we develop fruits of the spirit -- love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Our garden will be a place of hospitality where all are welcomed and encouraged to share their gifts with others.
Our Growth: The Simple Gifts Garden is in its 4th year - and the transformation from fertile field to bountiful harvest has been incredible.
