Planting the seeds of hope

Dear friends,

As 2021 comes to a close, we are also coming to the end of our time at what we’ve affectionately called the “Jeanne” location of Simple Gifts Community Garden. Yesterday the shed was moved to a temporary location on the campus of Apex UMC.  Today the last few plants will be given to several neighboring community gardens and the last harvest of the year will go to local food banks. We have accomplished a herculean task with grace, patience, diligence and dedicated teamwork. I’m completely in awe at what we have done and I’m so grateful to all of you who have helped! Having completed the task of vacating the property by December 31st, please remember that the garden location is private property and we do not have permission to be there after the first of the year.

We hoped to have a new location to move to directly, but that has not worked out. We have looked at many options but have not yet found a possible location that will allow us a long-term commitment.  Of course, we know that we will not find a location that has everything we’d like, but longevity is a top priority.  We are working on a package of information to send to media outlets very soon in hopes that more exposure of our situation will yield more options. If you have any leads or ideas, please contact me at anneh21@gmail.com or 919-616-6659 or Monty Moree at mmoree@nc.rr.com or 919-924-1300.

This is the natural season of rest and down time at the garden and every year at this time I think and dream about the possibilities for the future.  This year is different in some ways, but in this way it is similar.  We have the chance to turn an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to start over with 1000% more knowledge than we had when we began in 2009.  Please join me in dreaming and planning for the future of the garden. We have shared life-sustaining nourishment for the body and the soul for 13 years and the needs are as great as ever. We may not be planting actual seeds until some time later, but please plant the seeds of hope and dedication in your heart.

Love to you all,

Anne
